Return of the Blog
Welcome back, Queering the Narrative!
Life’s been kinda stressful. El and I recently moved, and I started a full-time job, and the world is, you know, happening. So Writing’s been lagging a little bit.
It didn’t help, of course, that my website was a pretty comprehensive mess. However, that last one there I could certainly remedy, and so I recently overhauled my whole website experience! I’m now using Squarespace, which still doesn’t quite do everything I want it to but is a bit easier to use (my Google search results have been pretty bad lately though, not sure what that’s about.) Overall, I MUCH prefer the aesthetic of the new site, and think the page for Queering the Narrative in particular looks a lot better.
On that note -- Queering the Narrative is coming back! I’ve missed it, and the weekly call to writing that it existed as, so I’m reviving it to make sure I’ve writing SOMETHING at least once a week. I’ll be updating the blog on Fridays, as usual.
I’m going to try to expand my topics a little bit, starting with next week’s topic: a breakdown of how I handle queer characters in one of my recently published stories!
Which is a delightful segue to: I have been published in a professional fiction magazine!!
It’s strange — for the past two years, I’ve made a goal for myself to get published in professional magazines, and didn’t manage it in either 2020 or 2021. But then, in the first couple months of 2022, after having NOT made a goals and reflections post, I got published!
You can read my new short story, Tillandsia, in Issue #2 of Solarpunk Magazine. And next week I’ll be discussing that story a little more in depth.
This is something of a short post, just to get going again on posting at all, but keep an eye on this space! Queering the Narrative is back, and I’m looking forward to discussing more about writing queer characters with y’all!
